Human Ecology

Human Ecology

Human ecology is who we are, all that we are. From our gut, our flora, bacteria; to our hormones and internal chemical makeup; to relationships, environment and our culture. This is what human ecology is about and all of these things influence our health.

Human ecology is who we are, all that we are. From our gut, our flora, bacteria; to our hormones and internal chemical makeup; to relationships, environment and our culture. This is what human ecology is about and all of these things influence our health.

When we look at health ecologically we see that Health IS Happiness! Health is not just an absence of disease, good health is also when you are happy, passionate and enjoy life. Sometimes we get too caught up and focus on the problems, the symptoms, then give it a label of illness or disease. Once we have a label, we tend to focus on it, own it and become it. We need to shift our focus back to being happy and include it as a part of our wellness and healthcare plans.

Why? Because happiness impacts our health. Research shows that people who hug are not only are much happier, they have less asthma, they have higher self-esteem. Hugging and touch increases the hormone Oxytocin. Increased Oxytocin levels lowers the stress hormones in the body, reducing blood pressure, improving mood, increasing tolerance for pain and can even promote healing. From a psychological view it also builds our relationships and promotes we trust others.

Life is in context. Everything needs to be in balance. When you take thing out of balance, inevitably something is going to go wrong. When it goes wrong, as humans we have a hard time figuring out what it is, so we usually we blame it on something else. When we look at life and health ecologically we get a better picture of what is really going on and how everything is interconnected. Then we can create a personalized treatment plan based on your individual lifestyle and circumstances so that everything works together. The ecological approach is interested in the person and connections in everything around them, where as other healthcare approaches are interested in pieces of that person. If your look to fix anything in a human being, you need to consider an ecological point of view.

At ILIV, we are a nonprofit 501c3 Medical Research and Education organization. In addition to providingpersonalized healthcare to patients, being not for profit allows us to do a lot more research. We consider each patient a research study themselves. This allows us treat them as unique, individual persons and not just go by existing protocols. As a general rule, when you go to a doctor’s office, they follow certain medical treatment protocols, but when you only have 7 1⁄2 - 15 min per patient, to listen, diagnose and treat, there is only so much you can do. Whereas with our organization method of personalized ecological approach, research, each person is a research entity unto themselves so we do things a little differently.

Happiness is part of our prescriptions!
